Pilgrimage church, museum and Silent Night Museum

Cultural holiday in Mariapfarr

The pilgrimage church in Mariapfarr has a centuries-old tradition in Marian pilgrimage and was reopened on August 15, 2016 after 2 years of renovation work. The highlight of the pilgrimage to the parish church "Our Lady" in Mariapfarr was in the Baroque period, but people still make pilgrimages to us today. For example, a five-church pilgrimage is organized by the museum association. The parish church is the original spar of the Lungau.

Carrying the "Samson" is also part of the tradition in the Lungau region. The Samson has been documented since 1635 and represents a giant who is said to have superhuman strength in his hair. It is our heritage that takes place year after year.

The Silent Night Museum is right in the arcade courtyard near the vicarage and includes documentation about Joseph Mohr, the author of the Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night". Mohr wrote the text in Mariapfarr in 1816. Discover this special cultural heritage during your holiday in Mariapfarr!
