Riding in Mariapfarr
All happiness on earth lies on horseback!
Galloping across green meadows, trotting through the beautiful forests on horseback is probably the most enjoyable way to explore the beautiful countryside. In Mariapfarr there are three different stables offering rides and riding lessons for beginners to advanced riders, as well as special children’s programs and horse carriage rides. UNESCO Lungau Biosphere reserve
As a natural habitat with long standing traditions and rich biodiversity, the Lungau region in southern Salzburg together with the Kärntner Mountains have been designated a "UNESCO-Biosphere reserve" since 2012. This quality seal of approval places the Lungau on the same level as Yellowstone Park, the Galapagos Islands or the Australian Ayers Rock. The international standing identifies particularly valuable habitats and is noted for both the conservation of the region’s nature as well as the traditions of its peoples. The Lungau offers a unique combination of true living traditions, authentic peoples, modern infrastructure and stunning nature. The third and largest biosphere reserve in Austria is therefore regarded as a model region for sustainable development.
